Belvidere is the largest city and county seat of Boone County. It was settled in the 1830s and named after a plantation owned by early settler William Thompson. Key attractions include the Boone County Historical Museum, Idle Hour Theater, and unique shops and restaurants in the downtown area.

Poplar Grove

Poplar Grove is a village north of Belvidere established in the 1850s. Historic landmarks include the Poplar Grove Historical Society Building, White Eagle Golf Club, and Victorian homes dating back to the 19th century. The village celebrates with an annual Settler's Day.
