Oil City

Oil City is the county seat of Venango County and is located where Oil Creek meets the Allegheny River. It has around 10,000 residents. Oil City was the site of the world's first oil boom in the mid-1800s and has numerous historic sites related to the petroleum industry. Key attractions include the Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad and the Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry.


Franklin is a city located along the Allegheny River in eastern Venango County with around 6,000 residents. It developed as a trade and transportation hub. Franklin’s downtown historic district contains many Victorian era homes, churches, and commercial buildings. The city hosts annual events like the Applefest and Oil Heritage Festival.

Cranberry Township

Cranberry Township is located in central Venango County and contains the unincorporated community of Cranberry. This center of population has around 2,600 residents. Popular attractions include DeBence Antique Music World museum and Morrison Park along the Allegheny River.


Sugarcreek is a borough located along Route 322 in western Venango County with around 540 residents. It contains several historic sites and buildings including the Miller Farmstead and Christ Episcopal Church. Local attractions include Alpine Acres Golf Course and Sugarcreek nature trails.
