Calabasas is a city in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. The Leonis Adobe, an adobe structure in Old Town Calabasas, dates from 1844 and is one of the oldest surviving buildings in greater Los Angeles.

Calabasas's history dates back to the Tongva people native Americans that inhabited the area for thousands of years. In 1769, after Spanish colonization, Manuel Nieto was granted a Spanish land grant for Rancho El Escorpión (Spanish for "the scorpion"), which encompassed today's communities of Agoura Hills, Westlake Village and Oak Park. The grant was later divided in 1839 and a portion becoming Rancho La Cañada del Corral de Tierra (Rancho Corral de Tierra) when Mexico gained independence from Spain; it was west of present-day Malibu Canyon Road.

In 1845, Juan Sepulveda bought Rancho La Cañada del Corral de Tierra for $50,000.00. Sepulveda left his initials on the bottom of an oak tree at this ranch; he died in 1850, leaving his ranch to his wife until her death in 1858.

The Leonis Adobe, an adobe structure in Old Town Calabasas, dates from 1844 and is one of the oldest surviving buildings in greater Los Angeles. In 2013, Calabasas was named one of America's safest cities by Mothers & Others for Safe Streets.
