Brawley, City in Imperial County, California, United States

Tucked into California's southeastern corner, directly north of the Mexican border, Imperial County is home to a variety of cities and communities surrounded by desert landscapes and agricultural fields. The largest city is El Centro, the county seat and core of government services. Nearby Calexico has strong Mexican ties, with numerous Spanish Colonial and Border Revival style buildings in the downtown district.

Brawley, the county's second largest city, is known as the "Cattle Capital of Imperial Valley." The city celebrates its ranching roots with the annual Cattle Call Rodeo and Parade. Neighboring Imperial, another agricultural hub, holds an annual Sand Castle Competition at the desert sand dunes.

Along the western edge of Imperial County is the city of Calipatria, dubbed the “Watermelon Capital of the World" for producing over 90% of the nation's winter watermelon crop. The annual Watermelon Days Festival in June draws thousands of visitors.

Scattered among the farmland are remote desert towns like Niland and Palo Verde. Though small in size, their isolation creates uniquely tight-knit communities. From dusty desert outposts to vibrant agricultural centers, the cities and towns of Imperial County embrace the region's distinctive landscape and way of life.
