Oklahoma County is the most populous county in the state of Oklahoma and contains the capital and largest city, Oklahoma City. With over 630,000 residents, Oklahoma City is a major economic and cultural center in the Southern Plains region. Originally just a large oil town, Oklahoma City has diversified its economy through aviation, government, and technology.

Surrounding Oklahoma City are many suburbs and smaller towns that make up the metro area. To the north is Edmond, a fast-growing middle-class community and home to the University of Central Oklahoma. On the eastern side is Midwest City, established after WWII as housing for Tinker Air Force Base. Other notable cities include Del City, Yukon, Bethany, and Mustang.

Though Oklahoma City dominates the county, each community has its own local government, schools, parks, and unique identity. Towns like Choctaw and Harrah cherish their small-town atmosphere. However, many residents work, shop, or play in Oklahoma City to enjoy urban amenities. With a mix of urban, suburban, small-town, and rural areas, Oklahoma County offers diverse communities united under one greater metro region.
