After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 626,351 inhabitants. Its county seat is Conroe. The county was created 187 years ago in 1836.

Montgomery County is located in southeast Texas, just north of Houston. The county seat is Conroe. With a population of over 630,000, Montgomery County is the 9th most populous county in Texas.

History of Montgomery County

Montgomery County was created in 1837 and named after the town of Montgomery. The county was established shortly after the Texas Revolution and began with an economy based on lumber, agriculture, and ranching.

In the 1970s, Montgomery County saw massive population growth as people migrated from Houston and settled in new master-planned communities like The Woodlands. The population boomed over the next several decades, transforming Montgomery County into a major Houston suburb.
