Tarrant County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,809,034 and a population density of 778 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 2,123,347 inhabitants. Its county seat is Fort Worth. The county was created 175 years ago in 1848.
Tarrant County is located in northern Texas, comprising part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,110,640 making it the 3rd most populous county in Texas. The county seat is Fort Worth.
History
Early days
Tarrant County was established in 1849 and named for General Edward H. Tarrant. Fort Worth became the county seat in 1853. Early settlers raised livestock.
Growth
Fort Worth and surrounding areas have grown rapidly since the 1970s. The economy diversified from oil and livestock to include aerospace, defense, technology and manufacturing.

Defense
The economy is strongly driven by defense manufacturing, especially aerospace and aviation. Lockheed Martin and Bell Helicopter have major regional facilities.

Numerous banks and financial service firms are headquartered in Fort Worth, including American Airlines.
