The city of Miramar is located in Broward County, Florida, approximately 20 miles southwest of Fort Lauderdale. Miramar was officially incorporated in 1955, though the area had been sparsely populated before that.
Early residents were farmers and workers at the nearby Miami International Airport. Growth remained slow until the 1970s and 80s, when increased development and affordable housing drew new residents. Miramar became a popular suburb for Miami commuters.
