Stamford: The second most populous city in Connecticut. It is located on the Connecticut River in southwestern Connecticut. The city was created 383 years ago in 1640.

Stamford is a city in Fairfield County, Connecticut located on the Long Island Sound about 35 miles northeast of New York City. With a population of over 130,000, Stamford is the second largest city in Connecticut after Bridgeport.


Stamford was founded in 1641 and originally part of the Connecticut Colony. Early settlers were attracted by the harbor and potential for trade.

In the late 19th century, Stamford became a major manufacturing hub and center for industry. Firms like Yale & Towne, Hoyt-Stamford, and Scoville Manufacturing Company helped build Stamford into an industrial powerhouse.

After World War II, the city began transitioning to a service, finance, and corporate center aided by its proximity to New York. Large companies and banks opened offices in Stamford taking advantage of lower taxes and real estate costs compared to NYC.
