After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 109,888 inhabitants. Its county seat is Rockwall. The county was created 153 years ago in 1873.

Rockwall County is located northeast of Dallas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. As of the 2020 census, the population was 106,772 making it the 17th most populous county in Texas. The county seat is Rockwall.

History

Early history

Rockwall County was formed in 1873 from portions of Kaufman County. It was named for a subterranean rock wall that ran through the county.

Recent growth

The county has experienced rapid population growth since the 1970s as suburban expansion spread from Dallas.
