Newark is a city located in the county of Essex in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Its population at the 2010 census was 277,140 and a population density of 4,134 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 282,520 inhabitants.
The city was created 398 years ago in 1624.
Newark is a city with a long history, and it has evolved into a hub of culture and industry. The city has many museums, art galleries, and theatres.
Newark’s population is over 280,000 people. It has an area of 67 km² and it is located in Essex County in New Jersey.
The city was founded in 1666 by Puritans from New Haven Colony as the first planned community in America, but it soon became an important industrial center for iron-making and other industries. In 1835, Newark was incorporated as a city by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. It became “the first municipality in what is now the state of New Jersey to be granted a charter by Queen Victoria" on March 27, 1836.[6]
In 2006 Newark received the All-America City Award from the National Civic League (NCL). In 2013 Newark was ranked #20 on CNN Money magazine's list of the Top 25 Best Places to Live in America to raise a family; the magazine also featured Newark among its "Best Places to Retire" that same year.
