History
The area was originally inhabited by a Native American tribe known as the Potawatomi. The first settlers of European descent arrived in the early 1830s.
Naperville was incorporated as a city in 1857. Early growth was spurred by the arrival of the railroad and the city’s manufacturing and milling industries. Brickmaking also thrived due to the local quarries.
