The city of Longmont, Colorado has a population of over 90,000 residents and is located northeast of Boulder in Boulder County. Longmont was founded in 1871 and was built along the St. Vrain Creek and Burlington Northern Railroad lines.
Longmont first developed as an agricultural community with many farmers and ranchers settling the area. In the late 19th century, Longmont became a market and supply town for local farms. Sugar beet cultivation and processing as well as milling and cement industries expanded Longmont's economic base in the early 20th century.

Today, Longmont has a diverse economy including high-tech firms and startups. Some of the largest private employers are Seagate, Amgen and DigitalGlobe. Longmont is conveniently located between the tech hubs of Denver and Boulder.
