Plano is a city located in the county of Collin in the U.S. state of Texas. Its population at the 2010 census was 259,841 and a population density of 1,393 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 291,296 inhabitants.

The city was created 153 years ago in 1872.

Plano was established in 1873 as a railroad town along the Houston and Central Texas Railway line. It was incorporated as a city in 1881.

The city really began to expand in the late 1960s when developers created the Legacy master-planned community there. This sparked major suburban growth in Plano over the next few decades.

Today Plano is one of the largest suburbs of Dallas with a population over 290,000. It has become a major corporate hub, especially for high-tech companies.
