Carrollton is a city located in the county of Dallas in the U.S. state of Texas. Its population at the 2010 census was 119,097 and a population density of 1,240 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 139,892 inhabitants.
The city was created 113 years ago in 1912.
The area that is now Carrollton was settled by early pioneers in the 1840s. It was originally part of the Peters Colony land grant. Carrollton was named after Carrollton, Illinois and officially incorporated in 1913.
Early settlers were mostly farmers growing wheat, cotton, and vegetables. The town remained small until the late 1950s when the population boomed thanks to postwar growth in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Carrollton focused on providing affordable suburban housing during this expansion.
