Hood County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 51,182 and a population density of 45 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 63,527 inhabitants. Its county seat is Granbury. The county was created 159 years ago in 1866.
Hood County is located southwest of Fort Worth in north central Texas. The county was formed in 1866 from portions of Johnson County. It was named after Confederate General John Bell Hood.
The city of Granbury has been the county seat since the county was founded. Granbury started as a square mile township with a log courthouse in the center.
