Waterloo is a city located in the county of Black Hawk in the U.S. state of Iowa. Its population at the 2010 census was 68,406 and a population density of 418 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 67,292 inhabitants.

Waterloo is a city in and the county seat of Black Hawk County, Iowa, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census the population was 67,314, making it the eighth-largest city in the state. The city is part of the Waterloo – Cedar Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is the more populous of the two cities.

It is located approximately 25 miles north of Iowa City and about 20 miles south of Cedar Rapids. The city's population was about 5,000 at its 1860 incorporation as a village; by 1890 it had grown to 25,000; and by 1910 it was about 38,000. With some annexation growth since then, as of 2010 its population had reached 61,213.

Waterloo is home to Northern Iowa University (NIU or UNI), which is part of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). It also hosts many other institutions such as Black Hawk College, a community college; Morningside College (a private Methodist college); and several private universities including Concordia University and St. Ambrose University.

The 2010 U.S Census shows Waterloo's population at 61,213 residents living in 24,811 households.
