Council Bluffs

Council Bluffs is the largest city in the county and the seventh largest in Iowa, with a population of around 62,000 residents. It is located directly across the river from Omaha, Nebraska. Key attractions include the Historic General Dodge House, Lake Manawa State Park, and several casinos.

Avoca

Avoca is a small town in the eastern part of the county, about 15 miles east of Council Bluffs. Around 1,600 people live in Avoca. It was established in the 1870s as a railroad town. The RV Iowa 80 Truckstop north of Avoca is a popular tourist attraction.

Carson

Carson is another small town located further south of Avoca along Highway 59. It has a population of around 600 residents. The agricultural community holds an annual Carson Rodeo Days celebration.

Oakland

Oakland is a city in the northeastern part of Pottawattamie County with around 1,500 residents. It is located along Interstate 80. Oakland was established in the 1850s and has several historic buildings and sites.

Walnut

Walnut is the southernmost town in Pottawattamie County, situated along Highway 59. Around 200 people live in this tiny farming community. It holds festivals like Pioneer Days to celebrate its heritage.
