The city was created 117 years ago in 1906.

Lodi is a city located in San Joaquin County, California, in the center portion of California's Central Valley. The population was 62,134 at the 2010 census. The estimated population is approximately 67,586 according to 2019 census data. 

The city was founded in 1868 by Salvio Pacheco and named for the Spanish term for "meadow". Lodi was founded on part of Rancho Corte de Madera del Presidio granted to Gregorio Briones in 1843 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena. The first post office opened in 1872. Lodi incorporated in 1914.

Lodi is best known for its annual fair and parade held on Memorial Day weekend in May. It has been honored as an All-American City five times: 1964–65, 1972–73 and again twice more (1984–85 and 2005–06).

In addition to agriculture, Lodi has expanded its focus on art and wine since 1990 when the Lodi Wine Festival was established by Frank Wilkinson and Steve Smith. The event attracts thousands of visitors each year with wineries from around the world along with food booths, art exhibits and live entertainment on two stages.

The city's median household income is $45,480 and the median family income is $51,995 (in 2018).
