Joliet is a city located in the county of Will in the U.S. state of Illinois. Its population at the 2010 census was 87,398 and a population density of 518 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 85,583 inhabitants.
The city was created 193 years ago in 1832.
Joliet, Illinois is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States. With its gorgeous architecture and friendly people, it's no wonder that this city has won several awards for being one of America's best places to visit.
The city is home to many historic landmarks, including the Joliet Area Historical Museum, which houses artifacts from Joliet's past as well as items related to its history of industry. The museum also houses artifacts from other sites around Will County.
Joliet is also home to the Will County Courthouse and Jail, which was built in 1874 and still serves as a courthouse today. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
Joliet has been known as a transportation hub because of its proximity to major roadways such as Interstate 55 (the main route between St Louis and Chicago), U.S. Highway 6 (which links Joliet with DuPage County towns such as Naperville) and the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway (Illinois Route 390).
The Joliet Public Library serves as an important part of Joliet's culture and community life. The library opened in 1871 and now has more than 400,000 books in its collection as well as more than 30 computers available for use by patrons.
