Globe

Globe is the county seat and largest city in Gila County. Founded in the 1870s, Globe has a history tied to the mining industry. Downtown Globe has maintained much of its historic architecture and period-style storefronts. The Gila County Courthouse built in 1928 is an iconic landmark. Globe hosts annual events like the Copper Drop on New Year's Eve and the Copper Brothel Art Walk.

Miami

Miami is a small town about 10 miles west of Globe. It was founded in 1900 and named after the Miami Indian tribe indigenous to the region. Miami has vintage neighborhoods with old-fashioned street lamps lining the roads. Landmarks include the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Gila County Jail which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Miami Area Historical Society operates a museum in the original hospital building.

Payson

Payson calls itself “The Heart of Arizona” due to its central location in the state. Initially a ranching community, today it is a popular recreation hub. Payson hosts the World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo each August. Other attractions include the Rim Country Museum and historic Main Street lined with unique shops and eateries.

Hayden

Hayden is a small town south of Winkelman founded in 1911. It was named for the nearby Hayden Smelter which operated until the 1920s mining decline. Hayden has a public library, churches, and access to outdoor activities along the Gila River. Each January it holds the Tortolita Mountain Chili Cook Off.
