Clinton Township is a suburban community located about 15 miles northeast of Detroit in Macomb County, Michigan. As of 2020, Clinton Township had an estimated population of 99,753 residents.
History
The area was first settled in the early 19th century and organized as Clinton Township in 1818. It was named after early American politician DeWitt Clinton.
The township remained mainly rural farmland until suburban residential development took off after World War II.
By 1970, Clinton Township was Michigan's largest township with over 50,000 residents. It became a charter township in 1989.
