South Bend is a city in northern Indiana, located along the St. Joseph River near the Michigan border. It's home to around 100,000 residents.
Education and Innovation
South Bend is best known as the home of the University of Notre Dame. The prestigious Catholic university drives much of the economy and innovation in the area. Beyond Notre Dame, South Bend is also home to Ivy Tech Community College and other smaller colleges.
The city has worked to reinvent itself as a hub for technology and entrepreneurship. Efforts include the construction of the Ignition Park tech center and the Renaissance District in downtown.
Manufacturing History
South Bend has a rich manufacturing history, largely led by the Studebaker car company which operated there from the 1920s to 1960s. The Studebaker National Museum commemorates this history. Other major employers have included Honeywell and AM General.
