History of Santa Rosa

The original inhabitants of the area were the Pomo Indians. Spanish settlers first established a presence in the early 1800s when they founded the Mission San Francisco Solano.

In 1833, the Mexican government established Santa Rosa as the regional capital and officially founded the town in 1854. Santa Rosa was incorporated as a city in 1868.
