Salina, Kansas is a city in Saline County, Kansas. It is the county seat of Saline County and had a population of 46,889 as of the 2020 census.
The city is named after Salina Creek. The creek was named by early settlers who mistook its salt content for that of a salt creek.
Salina is located at (37.845505, -97.722003). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 66.65 square miles (172.04 km²), all land.
Salina is on U.S.-56; it is also served by K-4 and K-202 highways, as well as its own municipal airport, which is approximately north of the city center in southeast Salina; this airport serves primarily general aviation traffic and hosts an annual air show each fall with tens of thousands attending each year from around the state and beyond.
Salina is home to Haskell Indian Nations University and has several other colleges within its limits. It is also home to many retail stores and restaurants as well as various other businesses.
