Ramapo is a town located in the county of Rockland in the U.S. state of New York. Its population at the 2010 census was 126,595. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 138,356 inhabitants.

The town was created 232 years ago in 1790.

Ramapo is a town in Rockland County, New York. The area was originally inhabited by the Munsee people before Dutch settlers arrived in the 1600s.

In 1774, the region was renamed New Hempstead. It became part of the town of Haverstraw in 1788. Finally, in 1829, Ramapo became its own town.

The town grew slowly initially. However, the construction of the Erie Railroad in 1841 brought industry and development to Ramapo. The town became an important railroad and mining hub.

Today, Ramapo retains its identity as a diverse suburban community. According to the 2020 census, the town has over 138,000 residents.
