History

The Wyandotte tribe originally inhabited the land before European settlement began in 1843. Kansas City, KS was incorporated in 1886. It emerged as an industrial meatpacking and railroad hub complementing Kansas City, MO's role as a commercial center.

Kansas City, KS experienced rapid growth in the early 1900s but declined after WWII as residents moved to suburbs. It revived with the rise of the automobile industry and casino gaming.
