The city was created 191 years ago in 1834.
Marshall is a city in Clark County, Illinois. The area was first settled in 1836 and originally named Darwin.
In 1855, the village name was changed to Marshall after statesman John Marshall. That same year, Marshall was officially established and platted.
The railroad reached Marshall in 1870, bringing economic growth to the region. By 1900, the population had exceeded 2,000 residents. Marshall was incorporated as a city in 1963.
