Edgerton is a city in northeastern Platte County, Missouri and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area within the United States. The population was 546 at the 2010 census, an increase from 489 in 2000. Edgerton is part of the Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City MO-KS Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Edgerton was founded in June 1867 by John K. Dye and named for his wife's maiden name (Edith Gertrude). A post office called Edgerton has been in operation since 1874. The community was named after William A. Edgerton, an early settler. It was incorporated on February 19, 1898.
The community's name is pronounced with an initial "E" sound like "edge", not "ee" like "ee" as in fee or ewe.
