Fulton County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 55,531 and a population density of 40 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 52,812 inhabitants. Its county seat is Johnstown. The county was created 186 years ago in 1837.

Fulton County sits near New York's southern Adirondack Mountain region, northwest of Albany. Formed in 1838 from Montgomery County, it was likely named for Robert Fulton, the inventor of the steamboat.

Early European settlers built sawmills to support the booming lumber industry. Tanneries and glove production later arose as leading businesses as well.

Today, Gloversville and Johnstown are the main population centers.
