Bremerton is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 37,729 at the 2010 census and an estimated 41,405 in 2019. It is the largest city on the Kitsap Peninsula, and is located across the Port Washington Narrows from Seattle.

Bremerton is best known as the home port of a number of United States Navy ships including the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and its battle group. It is also known as the location of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, which maintains active naval forces through its Bremerton Annex and was responsible for construction and repair of nuclear ballistic missile submarines until its closure in 1997. The city has a significant concentration of recreational boats that can be rented to vacationers and other visitors to the area.

The city was named after Peter W. Bremer (1805–1882), who owned the land where the city was founded.[14][15] In 1891, Peter Bremer sold his homestead to Henry Hewitt Burton (1826–1904), who built a sawmill and began promoting his new town by inviting people.
