Wilson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 42,918 and a population density of 20 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 52,023 inhabitants. Its county seat is Floresville. The county was created 164 years ago in 1859.
Wilson County is located in the southern region of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 51,257 making it the 41st most populous county in the state. The county seat is Floresville.
History
Early days
Wilson County was established in 1860, shortly before the start of the Civil War. It was named after James C. Wilson, a Texas Revolutionary soldier. Floresville was designated the county seat in 1868.
20th century
In the first half of the 1900s, agriculture and ranching dominated the local economy. The population grew slowly but steadily. In the latter half of the century, growth increased more rapidly as more residents commuted to jobs in nearby San Antonio.

Agriculture
Cattle ranching and hay production are the main agricultural activities. The county has over 400,000 acres of farmland. Key products are beef cattle, coastal hay, and pecans.
Manufacturing
Oil and gas extraction is a major industry, along with production of cement, steel, and fabricated metals. The county has sizeable deposits of oil, natural gas, and phosphates.
