Santa Barbara is a city located in the county of Santa Barbara in the U.S. state of California. Its population at the 2010 census was 88,410. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 90,254 inhabitants.

The city was created 176 years ago in 1846.

Santa Barbara is a city on the central California coast, with the Santa Ynez Mountains as dramatic backdrop. Downtown, Mediterranean-style white stucco buildings with red-tile roofs reflect the city’s Spanish colonial heritage. Upscale boutiques and restaurants offering local wines and seasonal fare line State Street. On a nearby hill, Mission Santa Barbara, founded in 1786, houses Franciscan friars and a museum.

Santa Barbara is home to several colleges and universities including University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and Santa Barbara City College (SBCC). The University of California at Santa Barbara is one of only two UC campuses in coastal Southern California—the other being UCLA—and is also only about 100 miles away from Los Angeles. UCSB has an enrollment of 19,000 students and offers undergraduates more than 100 majors in its eight undergraduate colleges; graduate students can choose from more than 50 master's programs or pursue doctorates in any of five academic divisions (Natural Sciences; Letters & Science; Engineering; Arts; Social Sciences).

The University of California Santa Barbara or UCSB is located on campus of the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). It is the only university in the world designed specifically for undergraduate education in the arts, humanities, and sciences; it offers majors in all three areas as well as interdisciplinary programs that draw on all three areas together.

Santa Barbara's year-round mild climate makes it an ideal place for outdoor activities. In fact, there are few cities in California that offer such a wide variety of recreational opportunities within such.
