The city was created 302 years ago in 1721.

Manchester is the most populous city in New Hampshire and the center of the state's most populous metropolitan area. It is located along the banks of the Merrimack River in Hillsborough County.

Manchester has a diversified economy focused on industries including technology, healthcare, finance, insurance, education, and manufacturing. Major local employers include Elliot Hospital, Southern New Hampshire University, FairPoint Communications, and the University of New Hampshire at Manchester.
