Flint is a city located along the Flint River in eastern Michigan. The Flint River allowed for the transport of timber in the early 19th century.
In 1855, Flint was incorporated as a city after fur trader Jacob Smith settled the area in 1819. The lumber industry fueled early growth.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Flint became a center of carriage and automobile manufacturing. Companies like Buick, Chevrolet, and AC Spark Plug were established.
