Gaylord is a city located in the county of Otsego in the U.S. state of Michigan. Its population at the 2010 census was 3,645 and a population density of 288 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 3,665 inhabitants.
Gaylord is a city in and the county seat of Otsego County in the U.S. state of Michigan. According to the 2020 census, Gaylord had a population of 4,286. The population was 3,645 at the 2010 census.
Gaylord is an unincorporated community in Otsego County and is located along M-32 about 13 miles southwest of Traverse City. It is part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area and is close to many lakes including Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix.
The city was named after Charles Carroll's grandson (Charles Carroll III) who was born in 1833 and died at age 14 on March 24th 1847 from scarlet fever. He was buried in Baltimore, Maryland but his remains were later moved to St Mary's Cemetery in Gaylord where his family built a monument over his grave honoring him as an American hero who saved lives during his short life while helping others through charitable work.
