Fishers is a city located in the county of Hamilton in the U.S. state of Indiana. Its population at the 2010 census was 76,794 and a population density of 797 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 97,020 inhabitants.

The city was created 132 years ago in 1890.

Fishers is a suburb of Indianapolis located in Hamilton County. It was originally called Fishers Switch when settled in the 1870s. Fishers saw population growth starting in the 1990s and officially became a city in 2014.


Fishers has a mayor-council form of government. The city’s first mayor Scott Fadness was elected in 2015. The city council consists of 7 members who represent different districts.


Fishers has experienced rapid economic development over the past 20 years. The headquarters of Launch Fishers fosters local entrepreneurs and startups. Major employers include Roche Diagnostics, Interactive Intelligence, and CNO Financial Group.


Fishers spans nearly 30 square miles of land northeast of Indianapolis. There are two main waterways: Fall Creek and White River. The terrain is relatively flat. The climate is humid continental with cold winters.


As of 2019, Fishers had a population of 95,000 residents, making it one of the largest Indianapolis suburbs. The population is predominantly white and has higher than average incomes and education levels compared to Indiana overall.


Fishers invests heavily in parks and recreation facilities like the Cyntheanne Park Sports Complex. Popular events include the Spark!Fishers Art Fair and the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater concert series. There are plans to develop a central downtown district.
