History

The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes like the Creek and Cherokee. In the 1800s, various towns and communities developed along the river and railroads in the Chattanooga vicinity.

East Chattanooga emerged as an unincorporated area that supplied foundries and factories with workers. It became an industrial extension of Chattanooga before suburbanization occurred in the mid-20th century.
