Calexico is a Southern California city that's known for its beautiful, temperate weather and friendly locals. The city is also known as "Little Tucson" because of its proximity to the Mexican border. It sits on the banks of the Colorado River, which runs through the center of town.
Calexico has a population of 39,841 people and covers an area of 22.33 square kilometers (8.6 square miles). It's surrounded by Imperial County on three sides, with Mexico to its south.
Calexico is located near a major source of irrigation water and on a route that connects Mexico's main ocean port at Manzanillo with the interior of Mexico by rail. The Costa Mesa Freeway connects Calexico with Orange County.
Calexico's economy relies heavily on agriculture and trade with its neighbor country to the south, Mexicali. The city has one major airport, Calexico Municipal Airport (CLX), which serves commercial flights from Phoenix and San Diego.
