Booneville is a city located in the county of Prentiss in the U.S. state of Mississippi. Its population at the 2010 census was 8,743 and a population density of 131 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 8,400 inhabitants.

Booneville is a city in the U.S. state of Mississippi and is the county seat of Prentiss County. It is located in the hilly North Mississippi region, and ecologically is part of the Southeastern Plains region.

It is known as "the City of Roses". Booneville was named after frontiersman Daniel Boone, who spent time in this area during the early 19th century. In 1861, Booneville was incorporated as a city.

The population of Booneville was 8,539 at the 2010 census and it has an estimated 2020 population of 9,688 people. The city has one public high school (Northwest), one private high school (Prentiss Christian Academy), two public elementary schools (Northwest Elementary School and Prentiss Elementary School), one public middle school (Northwest Middle School) and three private elementary schools: Prentiss Christian Academy (PK-6), St. Joseph Catholic School (PK-8) and St. Mary's Catholic School (PK-8). 

The University of Mississippi Medical Center was founded in Booneville in 1947, and it has grown into one of the most respected medical centers in the region. The college also offers degrees in nursing and pharmacy, as well as a small liberal arts program.

The climate in Booneville is mild year-round, with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing during winter months or rising above 90 degrees during summer months.
