The city was created 144 years ago in 1879.

Blue Springs is a city located in the U.S. state of Missouri within Jackson County. Blue Springs is located 19 miles east of downtown Kansas City and is the 9th largest city in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. 

It is home to Prairie Village, one of the largest shopping malls in the Midwest. The city also has its own airport, which serves as an alternate airport for Kansas City International Airport. The city's population was 55,415 at the 2010 census, making it the sixth-largest city in Missouri and one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.

The city was established in 1838 and named after a spring found on the property of William Harkness. Originally a small town on the Santa Fe Trail, Blue Springs grew after being connected to Kansas City by a railroad line in 1869. In 1948 it was linked to both Independence and Kansas City by an Interstate highway.
