Located just southwest of the Twin Cities metro area, Scott County is home to both suburban bedroom communities and historic small towns. The county seat and largest city is Shakopee, which was founded in the early 1850s and has grown into a population of over 40,000 residents today. Just northwest of Shakopee lies the city of Savage, which originated as a small farming village in the 1870s and now has a population approaching 30,000.

Further to the northeast you'll find Prior Lake, one of the fastest growing suburbs in the Twin Cities region over the past few decades. Prior Lake sits on the shores of its namesake lake and offers residents a vibrant small-town feel just a short drive from Minneapolis and St. Paul. Heading south, the smaller town of Jordan was established in the 1850s as well and still retains much of its original small-town charm with a historic downtown district.

In the western part of Scott County, you'll find the towns of Belle Plaine and New Prague. Belle Plaine is the oldest city in the county, founded in the 1850s by settlers of Czech heritage. New Prague was also founded by Czech immigrants around the same time period. Both towns celebrate their heritage with annual festivals and events. With its unique mix of growing suburbs and historic small towns, Scott County offers residents the best of both worlds.
