Fresno, the county seat, is the fifth largest city in the state and serves as the economic and cultural hub of the Central Valley. Just north of Fresno is Clovis, nicknamed "Gateway to the Sierras" thanks to its proximity to the majestic mountain range. Clovis began as a freight stop along the railroad and is now popular with families for its charming Old Town district, parks, and excellent schools. Smaller towns like Sanger, Fowler, Selma, and Kingsburg reflect the agricultural roots of the area with their raisin and citrus festivals.
